Swift progress report

I have great news for those who are waiting to hear more about Swift. We have been at it for a few weeks now and i must say that everything is running smooth until now. Xelu has started working on a new trailer for the game featuring the opening scene, called Swift Testing Area. I just saw his latest clip and i am astonish after seeing his progress. Allot of work has been put into this project and we hope that you, the player, will get to enjoy our little game. More updates are to be posted soon

Highschool - a place where projects are W.I.P and grades ar R.I.P

Man what an aughfull day today. I had 2 exams (which i didn’t know about), barely survived the physics class and my internet connection is slower then a snail glued to the floor. And on top of that i didn’t get to work as much as i wanted on swift. I fixed a few bugs, tried a few things from the “To Do List” but nothing special. Hopefully i’ll get to work on it tomorrow after school, if i manage to survive. The only thing that managed to keep me happy today was the tape i received from a friend, Daniel. A video recorded at GDC, this year. Didn’t get to go there but at least i saw what happened. Saw the IGF awards also, and i am impressed by some of the games i saw there. Hopefully i’ll have a working version of Swift by the time GDC reaches Europe (august). Well thats, that. Bed time for me. G’nite folks.

Indie game developer resources

While twittering(is that even a word) today i came across a link that proved to be extremely valuable to a new comer to the indie scene, like myself. I hope you people find as useful as it has proven to be. Send your thanks to @gaminghorror for the link.

Got my hopes up

I’m happy because i got to fix a major bug i was fighting with for a few days. Swift development is going better then ever. Xelu is so excited that he thinks we may be able to build a release in about two months. We also bought two domains today, one for the team’s website, and the other one for Swift. Since Xelu finished the artwork and 3D models earlier then expected he will get to design the new websites, while i will continue to work and fix some bugs. We also contacted Jason Holtman from valvesoftware regarding a possible distributions of future games, or special map packs for Swift via STEAM. We are still far away from achieving that but i’m amazed how fast this game keeps on evolving. I finally start to feel like i am coding a real game and no one of my “basement experiments”. Well thats all for now, i’m going back to coding. Hope to see you soon with more “sweet” news.

Swift

Some of you have heard me using the word “Swift” before, and some of you asked me what is that, while some said nothing. To those of you interested in finding out about it, i am willing to post some details, but nothing much because we, me and Xelu, want to polish and perfect the game as much as possible before making it public. As you may have guessed Swift is the title of our first game, a platformer, a 3D Platformer/Puzzle better said, a game in which you controlĀ  a tiny little spherical ‘bot in an attempt to “gather” as much knowledge as possible from the training sessions, because you - are a bot like no other, a bot programmed to learn from his actions and experiences. While playing the game you will come face to face with various challenges like pressing a sequence of buttons in order to open the doors, deactivating several sentries and turrets, picking up and placing objects on top of various boxes in order to keep the door open andĀ  activating gravity switches in order to reach places that have been known to be “unreachable” before.

I won’t post any screens yet, so i guess you will have to “entertain” *shrug* yourself with a small teaser. If everything works as planned we will have a trailer showing some in-game footage in a few days.

Watch the teaser on youtube

Hello World

What better title could i choose for my first post? Hello world, my name is Ciprian and this, in case you didn’t notice, is my blog, my little peace of heaven where i get to wright my thoughts, share it with you guys and hopefully get some feedback. Read my blog, and i promise you i won’t post what i ate this morning, what type of coffee i am drinking, what color my shoes are, or what did i do last night at the local club when i got drun… ops! Since i am a big fan of indie game dev-ing, and game dev-ing in general, i will post allot about games, the games i develop, or games that other people develop, games that i like or games that i don’t like but i am forced to post because the producer keeps pointing a gun to my head.

What do i do? I’m just an 18 year old student from Romania. I’m not currently employed, but i hope i will be by the time i reach college, and hopefully i will get hired by an (indie) Game dev company. Also, i recently joined “forces” with Xelu and started out an indie game studio named, don’t laugh, “Face Palm Studios“. We are currently working on our first game dev project, a 3D Platformer/Puzzle game called Swift. A teaser has been released yesterday and it can be viewed on our youtube channel.
